Abstract

This chapter provides eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)-trained therapists with relevant cultural information about Latin American countries and the sociopolitical differences that tend to promote Latinx clients’ decisions to immigrate to the United States. This chapter highlights and attempts to familiarize EMDR therapists with clinically relevant immigration concerns often present and yet frequently unrecognized, overlooked, and misunderstood when servicing the Latinx community. This chapter does not include discussions regarding immigration issues pertaining to Latinx clients from the Caribbean.
