Abstract

This chapter first explores the construct of social class as a part of cultural identity, beginning with operational definitions and key existing theoretical frameworks. Second, considerations are offered for the interaction of socioeconomic status identity with relationship to the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. Here, a specific focus is provided to a working-class experience with a description of common cultural themes and expectations. Third, there is a reflection on the role of SES within eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and a review of literature to support initial recommendations to improve delivery of EMDR therapy for working-class individuals.
