Abstract

Throughout this book the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) program was frequently referenced. It is a national end-of-life educational program administered by the City of Hope (COH) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and was developed to educate nurses on evidence-based hospice and palliative care. The ELNEC project was originally funded by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with additional support from the Aetna Foundation, Archstone Foundation, California HealthCare Foundation, Cambia Health Foundation, Milbank Foundation for Rehabilitation, National Cancer Institute, Oncology Nursing Foundation, Open Society Institute/Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The COH National Medical Center in Duarte established an online resource for reference and education materials on palliative care in 1995 called the City of Hope Pain & Palliative Care Resource Center (COHPPRC). It acts like a clearinghouse to provide information and resources to improve pain management and palliative care.
