The purpose of this chapter is to inform the reader of the power of experience in symbolic-experiential therapy. Although this model is often viewed from a modernistic perspective, this chapter reveals its postmodern influence. What distinguishes symbolic-experiential therapy from other approaches is its significance on the personhood of the therapist, and how the client’s therapy experience has the potential to change how the individual or family experiences their emotions, feelings, and the symbolic world in which they live, in new ways.
