Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to address how to prioritize self-care and introduce the process of finding a comfortable, worldview-fitting therapeutic mode that incorporates self-care. Within this chapter, burnout is discussed as well as strategies to prevent, attend to, and recover from burnout. At the conclusion of the chapter, the reader will know how to maintain self-advocacy in self-care both short- and long-term for greater overall well-being physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually, which ultimately can contribute to therapists’ success in the field of marriage and family therapy.
