Abstract

“Health” is the central common thread running through all 17 United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs). This chapter explores Nightingale’s legacy, the Theory of Integral Nursing, the application of this theory with the work of the Nightingale Initiative for Global Health (NIGH), and how nurse coaching empowers this vision. Two case studies are included as examples of the translation of NIGH’s integral lens, mission, and vision into action. The Theory of Integral Nursing is a grand nursing theory, informed by an in-depth study of Nightingale’s life and insights to develop relevant evolutionary growth processes, stages, and levels of human development and consciousness, moving the nursing world toward a comprehensive integral philosophy and understanding. Professional nurse coaching is a skilled, purposeful, results oriented, and structured relationship-centered interaction with clients provided by registered nurses for the purpose of promoting achievement of client goals.
