Abstract
Creating environments where health and well-being can flourish is a core responsibility of the nursing profession; a fundamental value rooted in the procurement of human dignity and the protection of human rights. Global nurses play a key role in leading research that decreases the multidimensional impacts of communicable diseases on individuals and nations, guiding policy changes that increase health care coverage for all members of society, and educating the public about the need for medication safety and vaccine scheduling. Reflective practice is particularly useful to nurses working in end-of-life settings as a way to make sense of difficult emotions and support ongoing personal and professional well-being. The Integrative Health and Wellness Assessment (IHWA) considers the following categories in the journey toward wholeness and optimal health: life balance and satisfaction, relationships, spirituality, mental, emotional, physical (nutrition, exercise, weight management), environmental and health responsibility.
