Assessment of the reproductive system can provoke a great deal of anxiety for the child or adolescent, the parent, and the provider. This chapter assists in gaining the skills to facilitate obtaining an accurate and complete pediatric genitourinary assessment in children of all ages. It helps the learner to obtain a thorough and accurate pediatric genitourinary history and to demonstrate sensitivity and maintain privacy when conducting the pediatric genitourinary history and physical examination. The chapter then helps the learner to examine the male genitalia and abdomen using inspection and palpation, and distinguish normal and abnormal findings and to explain the female genitalia and abdomen using inspection and palpation, and distinguish normal and abnormal findings. It also helps the learner to analyze historical and physical assessment findings related to the genitourinary tract and use these data to make accurate assessments and diagnoses.
