Abstract

In 2013, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) raised the passing standard for the NCLEX-RN examination, which resulted in an almost 10% decrease in the first time pass rate among baccalaureate graduates nationwide during the second quarter of 2013. This decrease resulted in the development and implementation of an evidence-based NCLEX Advisement Program based on the Rogers Diffusion of Innovations Model. This teaching strategy provides guidance to undergraduate students in preparation for the NCLEX-RN as well as support in their transition to practice. The goal of this teaching strategy was not only to actively engage students in NCLEX-RN preparation much earlier but also to identify student weaknesses in preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam. This resulted in a 90% first-time pass rate by the third quarter of 2018. The outcome of supporting students in their transition to practice was to ease anxiety regarding issues of licensure and employment.
