Abstract

The chapter explores simulation best-practice methods, simulation frameworks to create neonatal specific simulations and ethical and practical risks related to simulation. It describes the methods for assessment, implementation and evaluation of simulation, and debriefing of students in simulation as it relates to best practice. The chapter also identifies the level of simulations applicable to the advanced practice nurse at various points in the program. It provides an overview of simulation pedagogy using evidence-based applications. The role of the advanced practice nurse within the clinical environment will require an understanding as well as a general comprehension of simulation best practice. The components of a simulation include all types of learning domains such as affective, cognitive, and kinesthetic. Best practice in health care simulation begins with the understanding of basic terminology within the pedagogy. Debriefing for meaningful learning (DML) is a form of guided reflection that is based in education theory.
