This chapter describes the dynamic CenteringParenting® model focusing on the mother-baby dyad. The model provides care in a group space to both individuals utilizing the three components: health care, interactive learning, and community building. Parents interact with each other, their clinician, their babies, and share joys and concerns around parenting, health needs, and family dynamics. As in pregnancy, during early postpartum period the health of the mother and the baby are closely tied. Moreover, postpartum care is lacking for most women, and so their depression screening, follow-up for gestational diabetes, support for breast feeding, challenge to set personal goals especially around weight and stress management seldom happens. Some women will have had medical issues during pregnancy and childbirth that need follow-up. Guidelines are more specific now about the importance of screening women for depression during the prenatal and postpartum periods.
