Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning is the official peer-reviewed research journal of the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education. Published three issues a year, the journal’s mission is to disseminate scholarly research related to: the financial decision-making of individuals and families; financial education and financial counseling techniques; and the education of professional financial educators, counselors, and planners. Research concerning all audiences, both U.S. and international, is encouraged.

Manuscripts are accepted on a continual basis. No submission fee is required. No publication fee is required for accepted papers. For more information about JFCP and manuscript submission guidelines, visit http://www.afcpe.org/publications.

Peer review: a distinguished editorial board consisting of acknowledged authorities and leaders in the field of consumer financial planning, counseling and education will review submissions via double-blind review. Papers will be selected for publication based on relevancy, content, and quality.

Topics: Papers can be research reports, theories and tools, literature reviews, policy reviews, and case studies. Preferred topics should be relevant to household finance, consumer finance, personal finance, and behavioral finance. Specifically, topics of interest include but are not limited to:

Diversity and Consumer Finance

Submission deadline: December 2, 2024.

We are pleased to announce a call for papers, in partnership with the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), for a special issue on “Diversity and Consumer Finance.” Original research papers or focused literature reviews on topics related to diversity and consumer finance are welcome. Papers may explore diversity and consumer finance from various perspectives, including but not limited to gender diversity, racial/ethnic diversity, social and cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion, etc., and their interaction with consumer finance. All research papers submitted for this special issue should contribute to understanding DEI considerations for effective financial education, financial behaviors, financial capability, and financial well-being.

 Authors are suggested to explore diversity and consumer finance from new perspectives, including data collection, methodologies, and systemic inequities. Researchers are encouraged to submit papers examining diversity / equity and consumer finance in different consumer cohorts, such as among various age groups, income groups, marital status groups, cultural groups, and the like. Furthermore, all submitted papers should have clear implications for practitioners, educators, and policymakers in the field of consumer finance. Authors are also encouraged to offer further research directions in the related areas of consumer finance. Additionally, papers building upon prior findings in the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning are particularly welcome.

 The deadline for submission is December 2, 2024. Submissions will be peer-reviewed. Manuscripts should be submitted online via link: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jfcp. The National Endowment for Financial Education will also host a workshop for prospective contributors concurrent with NEFE’s Financial Education Innovation & Impact (FEI&I) Summit, held on October 8-10, 2024, in Denver, CO. Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts or completed manuscripts for consideration for an invitation to the workshop by June 1, 2024. Please submit your proposals to Madelyn Smith, Assistant Editor, at email: [email protected]. Authors selected to participate in the workshop will be notified by July 1, 2024, and will receive fee-waived registration for the FEI&I Summit. Invited authors will be asked to confirm their participation by July 15, 2024.

Social Responsibility and Consumer Finance

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue on “Social Responsibility and Consumer Finance.” Original research papers or focused literature reviews on social responsibility and consumer finance topics are welcome. Papers may investigate social responsibility and consumer finance from various perspectives, such as sustainable consumption, ethical consumption, energy consumption, climate finance, green finance, FinTech, etc., and their interaction with consumer finance. All research papers submitted for this special issue should help understand the effects of social responsibility on consumer financial affairs, financial behaviors, financial capability, and financial well-being.
