Compassion Without Fatigue. A Unitary Caring Science Approach Part 1: Pausing to Listen to Narratives of Pediatric Nurses

Abstract: With Nursing currently in the grips of compassion fatigue, this qualitative research seeks to give voice to nurses as the caring professionals they are. In this paper, nurses shared their in-depth knowledge and experiences working on inpatient units,and their stories revealed a deep desire to honor the complexities of nursing. By sharing the essence of each participant’s narrative, this article illuminates their lived experiences and makes their invisible challenges visible. Focusing on those immersed in nursing as they recall and reflect on their experiences offer insights into how nurses may begin to heal.
