Abstract
In response to an increase in the prevalence of compassion fatigue, nurse educators can guide nurses to use reflective practice and create a personal philosophy of nursing. Watson’s Human Caring Theory provides the foundation for caring for self by this reflective activity. Studies have shown that a reflective practice is associated with improved caring, communication, critical thinking, and positive well-being. There are 4 steps to writing a philosophy of nursing. Educators can provide guiding questions to help the writing process. Nurses at all stages of their career will benefit from this reflective activity.
