Abstract

Counseling Theories and Case Conceptualization: A Practice-Based Approach is the most comprehensive and technical textbook available that integrates counseling theories, approaches to case conceptualization, theory-congruent assessment, and theoretically based counseling skills. Designed for masters- and doctoral-level counseling students, it symbolizes a comprehensive theoretical journey emphasizing the legacies, philosophies, science, and professional practice of counseling. Within this 13-chapter textbook, 36 theories of counseling are thoroughly reviewed. This CACREP-aligned textbook is further distinguished by its chapter-based focus on multiculturalism, intersectionality, social justice factors, and the theoretical conceptualization of a myriad of contextual and treatment-based issues. To further enhance the clinical application and multicultural emphasis of each theory-based chapter, a digital video recording entitled Voices From the Field is included in each chapter. This is a digitally recorded interview with a practitioner who has expertise in one of the chapter-based theories reviewed. Voices From the Field showcases first-person accounts from diverse clinicians working with marginalized communities, people of color, LGBTQIA+ clientele, and other underrepresented populations.
