Abstract

The LGBTQ population experience a higher prevalence of medical and behavioral issues. These issues are not unique to the LGBTQ population; instead, they were created and perpetuated by decades of discrimination and stigmatization in society and within healthcare. Nurses can better serve LGBTQ people to understand the health disparities that face this population. This will allow nurses to appropriately assess and educate LGBTQ people about their health and wellness.
