Abstract

The rehabilitation counseling credentialing process is the oldest and most established certification mechanism among the counseling and rehabilitation professions. This chapter provides a brief history of the certified rehabilitation counselor and the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Examination (CRCE). It provides a breakdown of eligibility criteria for the CRCE, an overview of the examination and its content, tips and strategies for preparing and studying for the exam, a description of what to expect on the exam day, and some test-taking strategies. The chapter helps the reader understand the history of the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification and the history and purpose of the CRCE. The chapter elaborates on the available CRCE testing accommodations and process for requesting a testing accommodation, and helps the reader develop an effective study plan and schedule.
