The rehabilitation counseling credentialing process is the oldest and most established certification mechanism among the counseling and rehabilitation professions. This chapter provides a brief history of the certified rehabilitation counselor and the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Examination (CRCE). It provides a breakdown of eligibility criteria for the CRCE, an overview of the examination and its content, tips and strategies for preparing and studying for the exam, a description of what to expect on the exam day, and some test-taking strategies. The chapter helps the reader understand the history of the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification and the history and purpose of the CRCE.
