Abstract

Psychiatric rehabilitation is a comprehensive approach to assist individuals with psychiatric disabilities in pursuing their life goals and managing their disability. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the nature of psychiatric rehabilitation by reviewing key principles of recovery, self-determination, and wellness management strategies. Specific practices used in psychiatric rehabilitation, including medication management, family interventions, and treatment for co-occurring disorders are also discussed.
