Abstract

This chapter helps the reader to appreciate the power inherent in effective use of resources; articulate the interrelationship between quality of care (processes and outcomes) and healthcare finance models; and utilize financial management tools, such as budgeting, to support the best use of resources. It also helps the reader to determine various means of revenue and resource generation for the delivery of healthcare and recognize financial and practice opportunities related to emerging patterns in the provision of care. The chapter introduces selected topics related to financial issues and essential concepts of financial management for those in the leadership role and for clinicians who carry a responsibility for the financial health of the organization. The relationships among power and influence, decision-making, achieving goals, and leadership growth are related to finance.
