This chapter is dedicated to preparing nurses, who have a doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree, about how to teach financial management to nurses in both practice and academic environments. All nurses need to understand health care economics because knowledge in this area promotes a better understanding of the nature and organization of the health care environment. The chapter discusses the use of economic principles during program development and program evaluation along with frameworks and teaching strategies. Teaching financial management requires the use of adult learning principles and critical thinking in order to maximize and enhance the learning experience. The use of a variety of teaching strategies such as case studies, role play, the use of treasure hunts, and so forth, is very important in assisting the adult learner to experience and gain skills in the application of what they have learned about financial management.
