This chapter outlines components of recovery and discusses the importance of nonnegotiables, while also allowing recovery to be a fluid experience, evolving uniquely with the individual. It normalizes the occurrence of triggers and setbacks in the recovery process. It explores a complexity of factors involved in lapses and relapses, including the reemergence of residual trauma, new and/or ongoing; systemic trauma; oppressive body ideals; and grief. It encourages curiosity by both the clinician and client to enhance understanding and guide in treatment planning The chapter summarizes a list of modalities, clinical interventions, and suggestions while also including personal disclosures from the authors.
